SAT OCT 22ND 2011: RALLY FOR JUSTICE FOR JORDAN MILES ON THE 16TH NATIONAL DAY AGAINST POLICE BRUTALITY

Peace All,

Please join the Alliance for Police Accountability on the 16th National Day Against Police Brutality as we demand D.A. Zappala stop prolonging justice.

It has been almost two years since Jordan Miles suffered the horrific and brutal beating at the hands of three of our very own Pittsburgh police officers.

We have been more than patient and should have to wait no longer. The police lied and Judge Petite dismissed the charges that they trumped up on Jordan Miles and it is on record that perjury of officers Ewing, Saldutte, and Sisak was the reason.

Court record they lied, no evidence of the reason they claimed they stopped him, and a beating that nearly cost this young honor student his life.

The pictures tell us that there most definitely was excessive force used in this case and we would like these officers off of our force so we can have a responsible police force.

Please find attached the flyer for our upcoming rally. Blast it to your address books, print it and make it available for others, or just spread the word. Thank you for all of your continued support and we will see you on October 22nd in Market Square at 1pm as we help this young man and his family get the justice they deserve!

In Solidarity,

Brandi S. Fisher
Alliance for Police Accountability
Chair

CALL TO ACTION: SUPPORT THE POLICE REPORTING AND ACCOUNTABILITY BILL NOW!

THE TIME TO ACT IS NOW!

• Call or Email Your City Council Representative
• Attend City Council Hearing for the Vote on Police Accountability and Reporting Bill

Message from Tim Stevens, Chair of the Black Political Empowerment Project:

Dear Community Partners, The Black Political Empowerment Project (B-PEP), in association with the Black &White Reunion, the Alliance for Police Accountability (APA) and the ACLU of Pennsylvania have been working together with Pittsburgh City Councilman Rev. Ricky Burgess for the past several months to draft the “POLICE REPORTING AND ACCOUNTABILITY’ legislation (bill# 2010-0234).

In 2010 we were able to assist in the passage of three pieces of police reform legislation in response to the beating of CAPA High School honor student, Jordan Miles. There have been many delays but NOW is the time for ACTION!

Attend City Council on Wednesday, September 7, 10am

We now are calling upon YOU and our community partners to be present in City Council Chambers located on the 5th floor of the City County Building on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 10 am to show your support for this important bill. You will have up to three minutes each to share your concerns about police community relations in Pittsburgh and the need to pass this reform legislation.

The bill, written in part by community advocates, calls for the reporting by police of ‘stop & frisks’ and “pat downs” which are currently not required. The presence of a large number of Pittsburgh voters WILL make a difference. We anticipate a vote on this bill on this date! Please mark your calendars now and please plan to be present.

Call & Email Your City Council Member and Urge Them to Vote for the Bill

“…this Bill has been discussed and debated since February 2011 in the public arena, council and meetings with City officials, including the Public Safety Director, Chief of Police and City Law Department and every member of City Council. As a registered voter in your district; I urge you to support Bill #2010-0234 and police accountability in Pittsburgh!”
